A superconducting eddy current or vortex is introduced into the network and adopt states which define the quantum bit. These states differ with respect to their position in the network and the energy levels possessed by the vortex. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) Switch (1) representing a quantum bit and comprising a network which includes Josephson junctions (9) forming part of at least one closed current loop (4, 5) that guides a superconducting eddy current or vortex having different states; and (2) Computer comprising an arrangement of these switches.
