The press piece (5) for applying pressure to the top of the sucker (1) comprises a skirt which is connected to and extends around the top of the sucker. The skirt can be moved between a first stable position in which it extends away from the sucker base in a truncated cone configuration, and a second stable position in which it extends towards the sucker base in a truncated cone configuration. The distance between the top of the sucker and the plane of the wide side of the sucker is less than or equal to the distance between the top of the sucker and the plane of the apron in the second position. The sucker has a truncated cone shape and the edge of the sucker base is intended for contact with a smooth surface. A coupling means is used to connect the sucker to the object being secured to the smooth surface. An independent claim is also included for a method for securing an object to a smooth surface using the fastener, by connecting the press piece to the top of the sucker, placing the sucker base against the surface, pressing down upon the sucker, pushing the apron into the second position and securing the object to the top of the sucker.
