A utility model relates to chemico-thermal methods of treatment. A method for the surface strengthening steel articles by ion-plasma nitration in pulsing glow discharge, at which during diffusion saturation pulse voltage of 1000-1200 V is supplied with pulse duration of 10-20 ms and value of period of pulses delivery of 40 ms to the piece and walls of container by means of system of electric supply and control, at that cyclic supply of working gas to container with duration of half-cycle of 15...30 min is stopped, changing temperature of cyclesof saturation with nitrogen and denitriding above the temperature of eutectoid transformation or below the temperature of eutectoid transformation. The utility model allows to reduce time of treatment, reduce electric energy consumption and exclude possibility of passing glow discharge into arc one.
