METHOD FOR TREATING PATIENTS WITH INTRACRANIAL EXTENSION OF CANCER ORIGINATED IN PARANASAL SINUSES

The method for treating the patients with the intracranial extension of cancer originated in paranasal sinuses comprises the surgical resection of cancer, chemo- and radiotherapy. The histological pattern of the tumor and its extension in the skull base are assessed. When cancer originated in paranasal sinuses spread only intracranially without the involvement of the cavernous sinus, one-step craniofacial resection of the tumor within the margins of the healthy tissues is performed. When the slowly growing tumor is revealed and the involvement of the cavernous sinus is probable, the tumor is resected subtotally or partially. When the involvement of the cavernous sinus is evident, chemo- and radiotherapy is performed prior to the surgery, and the radical surgery is performed after the decrease in tumor size and the restoration of the shape of the cavernous sinus. In the case of the benign tumors extended to the subtemporal fossa, the craniofacial resection of tumor is appropriated.
