A method for use of methane-containing gas of coal deposits for production of thermal and electric energy includes supply of gas from mine workings with gas ducts, collection, enrichment with methane extracted from coal beds, purification with removal of dust and use for production of energy. One uses humid methane-containing gas of degassing of coal beds developed from wells drilled from underground workings as fuel gas for engines in cogeneration units for combined production of thermal and electric energy on basis of gas-piston engines with electric generators and boiler-utilizers, this is taken from has pipelines for gas supply from underground wells with priority of highest methane content on the basis of required flow rate of gas in engines, one directs it to block for preparation of fuel gas for its enrichment, purification and decrease of humidity, after that it is supplied to cylinders of engines. The rest of not used gas from underground wells with low content of methane is supplied to stand for burning. To enrich fuel gas one uses gas from technogenous wells that is purified with removal of solid particles and drop water and directed to block for preparation of fuel gas, or natural gas from mains that is directed to block of preparation of fuel gas after throttling, mechanical energy of gas-piston engines is used for production of electric power by means of electric generators mechanically connected to gas-piston engines, and blown-out gases are directed to boilers-utilizers to obtain purpose heat energy.
