The invention relates to a method for the design and construction of complex technical products, in particular of internal combustion engines, and components thereof, wherein, for simulation and calculation tools for computer-aided engineering work (CAE), and to construct tools for computer-aided design (CAD) are used, with the following steps : a) depositing developmental information in at least one knowledge base, b) defining the product requirements, c) creating a product structure with the tools of computer-aided design (CAD), d) selecting a model structure of the tools of computer-aided engineering work (CAE), e) transformation of at least part of the parameters of the product structure on the model structure, f) simulation and calculation of at least part of the model structure of the product or the component due to the transformed parameters of the product structure, g) back-transformation of the updated parameters of the model structure of the product structure. By the process of the development and design process can be simplified and accelerated by complex technical products.
