A degradable crosslinked polymeric structure comprising hydrolytically unstable bonds between one or more non-peptide and conjugated polymers of said non-peptide polymers and one or more bioactive agents, wherein said structure has been crosslinked in the absence of free radical polymerization; wherein said non-peptide polymers are selected from the group consisting of polyvinyl alcohol, poly (alkylene oxides), poly (oxyethylated polyols), poly (oxyethylated sorbitol), poly (oxyethylated glucose), poly (oxazoline), poly (acryloylmorpholine), poly (vinyl pyrrolidone) and random or block copolymers and terpolymers based on the monomers of these polymers; and wherein said hydrolytically unstable bonds are degraded in aqueous solution to release conjugates of said bioactive agents and said non-peptide polymers.
