Use of PTX3 long pentraxin or a functional derivative thereof or its domain, to prepare a medicament for the prevention and cure of diseases caused by an uncontrolled proliferation of fibroblasts or smooth muscle cells, said disease being selected from the group consisting of scarring linked to an excessive fibroblastic response and post-angioplastic restenosis; or caused by an altered angiogenesis, said disease being selected from the group formed by diabetic retinopathy and atherosclerosis.
