A transgenic plant cell transformed by a nucleic acid encoding a Protein Transduction Stress-Related (STSRP) signals, wherein the STSRP is a Phospholipase C¿ protein 1 (PLC¿1) as defined in SEQ ID NO : 11 or a polipépti- do that has at least 80% sequence identity with SEQ ID NO: 11 over its entire length, and wherein the expres- sion of nucleic acid in the plant cell results in increased tolerance cell plant to drought stress compared to a varie- ty of the plant cell wild type.
