The device has two braking flaps, which extends in a flow within a surrounding airflow during the projectile flight. A retention unit is provided for maintaining the flaps in a retarding position in the outer atmosphere during an initial position of this flight. A liberating unit is provided for extending the flaps to another position within the atmosphere. The flaps are extended by a centrifugal force along the axis of rotation associated with the projectile. A cooperation unit is provided to assist the flaps in a symmetrical extension within the common atmosphere.
