ADAPTIVE CONSOLE FOR AUGMENTING WIRELESS CAPABILITY IN SECURITY SYSTEMS

A security system comprising a plurality of remote wireless units (21, 34), acentral control unit (12) and an adaptive console (44)for translating messages in radio frequency signals into messages in signalssuitable for transmission over a wire (30) in order to augmentthe wireless capability of the system. The adaptive console (44) has awireless receiver (11) for receiving the radio frequency signal, whichincludes identification and status information from a wireless remote units.The adaptive console (44) also has a processing unit (46) whichtranslates the identification and status information from the radio frequencysignal to correspond function data derived from a mapping ofvalid identification and status information to function data, the functiondata emulating data generated by keypresses on a keypad that isrepresentative of a function to be performed by the security system. Theadaptive console (44) also has a transmitter (13) which transmits asignal over a wired connection which includes the corresponding function datato the central control unit (12) or a wired security unit. Theadaptive console (44) may additionally have components enabling it to receivea signal from a wired connection, translate that signal tovalid identification and status information, and then transmit a second radiofrequency signal to the wireless remote units. Alternatively, thecentral control unit (12) may contain the mapping and perform the translationfrom valid identification and status information to functiondata.
