Method for preparing a self-sufficient fermentation medium

Preparation of a self-sufficient fermentation medium allowing metabolites to be produced from a renewable raw material (I), by: ??(a) selecting (I) from wheat solubles (preferred), peas and potatoes; ??(b) treating (I) so as to liberate carbon- and nitrogen-containing sources that can be directly assimilated by microorganisms; and ??(c) recovering the resulting medium, is new. ??An Independent claim is also included for the preparation of a fermentation medium which enables readily purifiable metabolites to be produced, starting from the above medium which is complemented by a source of carbon that can be directly assimilated.
