An improved method and apparatus for the treatment of chronic pain in discrete areas through the use of electrical pulses. In particular the present invention provides an electrical stimulation device comprising a probe for delivering a subcutaneous electrical stimulus in a subject and a generator for generating a stimulus output source for hyperpolarising A-Beta fibres in the presence of allodynia and hyperalgesia.
