An electrochemical electrode for use in oxidation/reduction-reaction-utilizing batteries, sensors, etc. wherein without the use of conductive carrier, nickel nanoparticles while maintaining the dispersibility and stability thereof are utilized in an active layer of large surface area; and a process for producing the electrochemical electrode. There is provided an electrochemical electrode having a conductive base material and, superimposed thereon, an active layer, characterized in that the active layer consists of a nickeliferous nanostructure of dendritic structure composed of aggregates of multiple primary particles, and that each of the primary particles is composed of a core part and, disposed therearound, a coating part, the core part constituted of a nickel nanocrystal while the coating part is constituted of a nickel oxide.
