The invention relates to a method of determining the sex of birds, reptiles and mammals using steroid hormones. In particular, the invention consists in designing a specific ELISA test for determining the concentration levels of testosterone hormone in faeces, urine or plasma from birds, reptiles and mammals, which serves as a male sex indicator in said species, in order to provide improved control of the reproduction and production of birds, reptiles and mammals. The inventive method can be used for practical purposes in any commercial operation involving the aforementioned species and to increase efficiency, thereby generating improvements and higher profits for producers.
