The invention relates to a method for stabilizing a motor vehicle. Said method comprises the following steps: - data of an image of an exterior space of the vehicle encompassing at least one stationary object point is detected during a first point in time and at least one second point in time by means of an optical sensor (104) that is connected to the motor vehicle in a fixed alignment; - a transversal velocity (vϜ) and/or a change in the yaw angle (Δψ) of the motor vehicle is/are determined based on a comparison between the image data detected during the first point in time and the image data detected during the second point in time; - a driving state of the motor vehicle is assessed based on the transversal velocity (vϜ) and/or the change in the yaw angle (Δψ); and - the driving state of the motor vehicle is influenced in accordance with a result of the assessment of the driving state. The invention also relates to a system for controlling the dynamics of vehicle movements, which is suitable for carrying out the disclosed method.
