A novel 16S rRNA methylase gene which is included in an enterobacterium that has acquired a high level of resistance to a wide variety of aminoglycosides; a method for detection of the gene; a primer for use in the method; a test kit using the primer; a probe; a test reagent using the prove; a protein produced from the gene; a method for detection of the protein using the protein; an antibody directed against the protein; and a test reagent comprising the antibody.
