Method for controlling the tension of a web (08) in a web-processing device (01) comprises controlling the tension of the web between a traction mechanism (04) and a holder (14) whilst periodically varying a parameter representing the web tension and changing the transport speed of the traction mechanism and holder so that the parameter of the periodic variation decreases. An independent claim is also included for a device for controlling the tension of a web in a web-processing device. Preferred Features: The transport speeds are changed relative to each other when the parameter of the periodic variation of its amplitude exceeds a determined limiting value.
