The invention relates to a method for slotting or folding homogeneous, multilayer plastic materials or rigid plastic materials, which are reinforced by crosspieces, on processing plotters. According to the invention, the plastic material is, prior to the mechanical slotting process involving the use of a pressing slotting tool (7), thermally softened in close spatial proximity by means of an immediately preceding, specific and controlled action of light radiation containing infrared portions. The action of intensive light containing a high proportion of infrared light results in an internal heating of the plastic material that enables slotting or folding by the application of pressure effected by an otherwise unheated slotting tool.
