The invention relates to a transfer device (20) for instruction sheets (1), said device being arranged between a brochure device (15) and a brochure conveying device (13). Said transfer device (20) comprises two pairs (21, 24) respectively consisting of two conveyor belts (22, 23, 25, 26). In order to remove the defective instruction sheets (1), two of the conveyor belts (23, 26) are arranged in a pivotable manner by means of a lever (43) thereby forming an alternative guiding path (50) which guides the defective instruction sheets (1) to a refuse container (46). The inventive transfer device (20) enables a early removal of the defective instruction sheets (1) from the cartoning machine (10).
