The present invention relates to a novel process for preparing decursinol (7-hydroxy-8,8-dimethyl-7,8-dihydro-6H-pyrano(3,2-)chromen-2-one) comprising the steps consisting of: extracting dried root of Angelica decursiva Fr. St, with water, lower alcohol or the mixture thereof, filtering and concentrating the filtrate to obtain the extract of root of Angelica decursiva Fr. St at 1st step; suspending and fractionating the extract with non-polar organic solvent selected from ether, chloroform, ethylacetate or acetone solvent to obtain the non-polar soluble extract at 2nd step; subjecting the non-polar soluble extract to basic hydrolysis with base selected from sodium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide, potassium carbonate or sodium carbonate to obtain hydrolyzed product at 3r step; neutralizing the solution with acid and recovering the hydrolyzed decursinol fraction from the solution with non-polar organic solvent selected from ether, chloroform, methylene chloride, ethylacetate or acetone at 4 step; purifying the fraction to obtain purposed decursinol with high-yield.
