A main rope shaking prevention device for an elevator capable of controlling satisfactorily shaking of a main rope, being attached or detached easily with an excellent maintenance/inspection performance, and being produced at low costs. Since, by rotatably fitting a cylindrical elastic body (26) over a spindle (24) supported by a pair of brackets (21, 22), its outer diameter can be reduced, a shaking prevention device (20) can be mounted in the vertical gap between the bottom surface of a sheave support beam (7) and the main rope (11), thus ensuring easy maintenance/inspection work and attaching/detaching/changing work.
