The invention relates to a piezoceramic material comprising a binary mixed system of an alkaline earth perovskite ABO3 and a bismuth yttrium oxide BiYO3, wherein A is at least one alkaline earth metal, and B is at least one element of the fourth main group and/or the fourth subgroup of the periodic system. The invention also relates to a method for producing a piezoceramic material. Said method comprises the following steps: a) providing a piezoceramic starting composition of the piezoceramic material and b) heat-treating the piezoceramic starting material, the result being the piezoceramic material. The invention allows the wet-chemical and therefore simple production of thin films of the piezoceramic material. The material, even when in the form of a thin layer, has excellent piezoelectric properties. The novel material is especially used in MEMS (micro electro mechanical systems). It can also be used in the production of actuators, e.g. for fuel injection systems or in ultrasound transducers.
