The subject matter of the invention is a method and apparatus for identification of undesirable messages, in particular so-called spam over Internet Telephony messages, or, SPIT messages for short, in an communication network in which communication traffic in the communication network is subject to monitoring by a SPIT analysis apparatus (SA). A subscriber (A) can in this case be classified as a subscriber sending SPIT messages, on the basis of the behaviour that is observed by the SPIT analysis apparatus (SA) and is characteristic of SPIT senders. Furthermore, messages sent by the subscriber (A) identified as a subscriber sending SPIT messenger can be identified as being undesirable messages.
