The invention relates to a device for breeding calliphoridae larvae. Said device comprises a gauze tube that is open at one or both ends thereof. The open end/s of said tube is/are reversibly and sealingly connected to one respective vessel. Also disclosed are the use of the inventive device and a self-optimizing method for breeding calliphoridae larvae, according to which the device containing the larvae is placed on dead tissue along with a section of the gauze tube.
