Disclosed is a method for documenting property and transfer of property of a merchandise that is provided with an overwritable storage medium on which a first digital key of a couple of keys comprising a first digital key and a second digital key of a first owner of the merchandise is deposited, the first owner having access to the store by using the second key. According to the inventive method, a) the second owner transmits his first digital key to the first owner, and the first owner overwrites his first key stored on the storage medium with the first key of the second owner by using his second digital key, whereby the second owner gains access to the store, or b) the first owner overwrites his first digital key on the storage medium with a separate first digital key by using his second digital key so as to deactivate the storage medium and make the same accessible to the second owner when property of the merchandise is transferred to a second owner.
