A method of classifying data broadcasting applications for time shift and a method of controlling synchronization of applications using the classifying method are provided to synchronize applications of time-shifted reproduced images according to whether the applications of the time-shifted reproduced images are dependent or independent and whether applications of the image which is currently broadcasted are dependent or independent. The name of the application of a broadcasting program is extracted when the broadcasting program is changed(204). It is checked whether the extracted application name is registered in an independent application candidate list(206). When the application name is not registered, the application name is registered in the candidate list(208). When the application name is registered in the candidate list, application classified information of the application name is checked and updated(210). The updated application classifier information is checked to check whether the application classifier information satisfies a predetermined independent application classification condition(212). When the classification condition is satisfied, the application name is classified as an independent application group(214).
