A diagnostic apparatus for focusing an electron beam in a traveling wave tube is provided to minimize an interception current value by measuring an interception current of the electron beam according to a position of a traveling direction of the electron beam. A diagnostic apparatus includes a cathode(1) for generating an electron beam(8), an anode(2) for accelerating the electron beam of the cathode, an RF input unit for modulating the electron beam, a permanent magnet(5) for focusing the electron beam, a pole piece(11) installed at the permanent magnet, an RF circuit having a helix(4) for modifying the kinetic energy of the electron beam to an electromagnetic wave, an RF output unit for outputting an electromagnetic signal of the electron beam, and a collector(7) for collecting the electron beam. The diagnostic apparatus further includes an insulating film(21) for utilizing the pole piece as an electrode terminal, an insulating spacer(22) including a ceramic, and a plurality of independent current meters(42-49) for measuring interception current.
