A biological water quality evaluation method that can be easily utilized by general public by selecting a small number of benthic macroinvertebrates suitable for Korean rivers as an indicator species group and developing a simple evaluation method appropriate for the selected indicator species group is provided. In a method for evaluating quality of river water by dominant species index using benthic macroinvertebrates, a method for biological water quality evaluation of rivers comprises using Plecoptera, hydropsyche, Chironomus and Tubificidae as indicator organisms. The method comprises giving constant values of gradually lowered scores in the order of Plecoptera, hydropsyche, Chironomus and Tubificidae to the indicator organisms, and obtaining a dominant species index as constant values of a first dominant species group of a target river that is examined. The method comprises giving constant values of gradually lowered scores in the order of Plecoptera, hydropsyche, Chironomus and Tubificidae to the indicator organisms, and obtaining a dominant species index by adding half constant values of a second dominant species group to constant values of a first dominant species group of a target river that is examined.
