A SIM CARD BASED SECURITY PROTOCOL FOR AN EFFICIENT MOBILE TERMINAL

A SIM(Subscriber Identity Module) card based efficient security protocol for a mobile terminal and a method using the same are provided to improve security and shorten the number of performance steps between GSM and SIM/ME(Mobile Equipment)/AuC of a 3GPP(3rd Generation Partnership Project) by using a two-step authentication mechanism. A technology method using a SIM card based efficient security protocol for a mobile terminal includes the steps of: performing mutual authentication between a SIM and ME; matching a code and an integrity key between the SIM and the ME; authenticating an ME user which uses the SIM through a PIN(Personal Identification Number) check between the SIM and the ME; generating authentication data based on an ReTriDES algorithm in AuC; generating the authentication data and checking a network based on RAND(Random AuC), AUTN(Authentication Token), and ReTriDES algorithms in the SIM; and matching a user identification and a cession key in the AuC.
