A process for manufacturing nano-wire by using porous template is provided to form the nano-wire with excellent arrangement or orientation and a nano-wire structure thereof with improved physical properties such as electronic and optical devices by forming the nano-wire after introduction of nano-particle or nano-particle precursor into pores of the template. The process comprises the steps of: (a) preparing porous template having a number of pores in elongated wire form; (b) introducing nano-particles or nano-particle precursor into the pores; and (c) forming nano-wire from the nano-particles or nano-particle precursor contained in the pores. The porous template is formed of any material selected from glass, silica and metal oxides such as TiO2, ZnO, SnO2 and WO3. The porous template is embedded in a matrix made of metal oxide or insulated polymer. The porous template has diameter of 1nm to 1mm and height of 100nm to 1mm, and each of the pores has diameter of 1-100mn and spacing between pores is 2nm to 1 micrometer.
