A method for preparing N,N,N',N'-tetraacetylethylenediamine is provided to minimize the formation of byproducts, increase the reaction rate and yield, and produce highly pure N,N,N',N'-tetraacetylethylenediamine in high yield without using post-treatment processes. In the method for preparing N,N,N',N'-tetraacetylethylenediamine using ethylenediamine and acetic acid, a reaction catalyst is one selected from halogen compounds and oxides of group 1A, group 2A, group 7A, group 8, group 1B, group 2B, and group 3B metal elements on the periodic table of the elements, or a mixture of two or more. The method for preparing N,N,N',N'-tetraacetylethylenediamine comprises the steps of: (1) reacting ethylene diamine with acetic acid to prepare a diacetylethylenediamine intermediate represented by the following formula 3; and (2) reacting the diacetylethylenediamine intermediate with acetic acid to prepare tetraacetylethylenediamine represented by the following formula 4.
