摘要

A charge transfer type catalyst which can function as an oxidation catalyst and a reduction catalyst without the necessity of using an oxidation activator or reduction activator. The charge transfer type catalyst comprises crystals of a composite oxide comprising: an electron-donating element; an electron-accepting element; an electron carrier element which accelerates electron transfer from the electron-donating element to the electron-accepting element; a reduction center element where reduction is conducted by the action of the electron transferred to the electron-accepting element; and an oxidation center element where oxidation is conducted by the action of that hole of the electron-donating element which has been generated by the electron transfer. The electron-donating element comprises at least either of molybdenum and tungsten, and the electron-accepting element comprises aluminum. The electron carrier element comprises a composite oxide or mixture of alumina and silica. The oxidation center element comprises rhodium. The reduction center element comprises barium.
