A method for manufacturing a catalytic converter in which a catalyst coated with different catalyst compositions perpendicularly to an exhaust gas flow direction, i.e., on the cross section of an inflow port, preferably in an emission direction is zoned, and an apparatus for embodying the method are provided. In a carrier coating apparatus comprising transfer means including a clamp at an end thereof, wherein the clamp is operated by a pressurizing line, and a storage tank which is installed in a lower part distanced from the clamp and in which a slurry is contained, an apparatus for manufacturing a catalytic converter with catalytic multi-zones comprises: a supporting plate(60) to which a first or second blocker is fixed, wherein the first or second blocker is contacted with a lowerable carrier and pressed to a central part of one surface of the carrier or a circumferential part of the one surface of the carrier to block the carrier; two or more vertical supporting bars(75) projected upward from the outer periphery of the supporting plate; two or more impact dampers(70) capable of receiving a pressurizing force of the supporting plate so that the pressurized supporting plate can be inserted into the storage tank while the supporting plate is maintained horizontally; and an emission directional auxiliary coating device comprising two or more connection bars(77) for horizontally connecting one ends(71) of piston rods of the impact dampers to the vertical supporting bars.
