A polyvinyl alcohol(PVA) composite carrier capable of improving efficiency of wastewater treatment by reducing solubility of a PVA carrier into water, thereby immobilizing microorganisms of high concentration without causing activity drop of microorganisms due to chemical treatment, and a wastewater treatment method using the same are provided. A polyvinyl alcohol composite carrier for immobilization of microorganisms comprises polyvinyl alcohol(PVA) and silicate structure. The silicate structure has a layered structure and is uniformly dispersed between molecules of the PVA. The silicate structure is an organo-clay treated with an emulsifier. The polyvinyl alcohol composite carrier for immobilization of microorganisms comprises 0.1 to 7 wt.% of the silicate structure based on the PVA weight. A method for treatment of wastewater by encapsulated immobilization is characterized in that the polyvinyl alcohol composite carrier for immobilization of microorganisms comprising polyvinyl alcohol(PVA) and silicate structure is used.
