A method for setting image quality in a portable terminal having a camera is provided to set a sharpness value to be suitable for a display module so as to satisfy all of display modules regardless of the display module, thereby providing goods with more improved image quality. A method for setting image quality in a portable terminal having a camera comprises the following steps: photographing and processing image data with a sharpness value initially set to be suitable for an internal display module(S120); resetting an arbitrary sharpness value suitable for an external display module(S150); and encoding the photographed video data before displaying the encoded video data(S160,S170). The arbitrary sharpness value is lager or smaller than the initially-set sharpness value.
