PURPOSE: A method for raising an alarm for the fail of a neighbor node using SCM(Supervisory Channel Monitoring) is provided to achieve system stability and to give reliability to an operator's operation for all nodes by executing alarm monitoring for neighbor nodes through the SCM of a WDM(Wavelength Division Multiplexing) system. CONSTITUTION: A WDM system consists of three nodes(100-300). The second node(200) is composed of the first SCU(Supervisory Channel Unit)(210), the second SCU(250), a DCU(Data Communication Unit)(220), an MCU(Main Control Unit)(230), and an OWU(Order-Wire Unit)(240). Each node has the same elements. The second SCU(150) of the first node(100), connected with the first SCU(210) of the second node(200), executes communication using an SC(Supervisory Channel). Also the second SCU(250) of the second node(200), connected with the first SCU(310) of the third node(300), executes communication using the SC.
