PURPOSE: To solve the problems that laborious setting work is heretofore needed when scribing conditions change and that dealing with scribing of nonequal pitches is heretofore not possible. CONSTITUTION: Scribing regions taken charge of by respective scribing heads are set for the transverse sizes of works and the scribing objects included in the respective scribing regions are determined. The first scribing head selects the smallest scribing object of the coordinates from the scribing objects included in the first scribing region as a scribing candidate and the scribing heads exclusive thereof select the smallest scribing objects of the coordinates from the scribable objects from the scribing objects included in the corresponding scribing regions as the scribing candidates and if the scribing candidates do not exist, the scribing heads are made to stand by in the positions parted to a descending side by a prescribed length from the scribing heads on the upstream side and if the scribing candidates remain after the scribing candidates selected in the manner described above are scribed, the operation described above is repeated.
