HEAVY METAL ABSORBENT AND METHOD FOR REMOVING HEAVY METAL USING THE SAME

An inexpensive heavy metal absorbent that can improve the environment of water quality by efficiently removing copper and nickel of low concentrations, and a method for removing copper and nickel existing in wastewater at low concentrations in an economical manner by using the heavy metal absorbent are provided. A heavy metal absorbent comprises a microalgae selected from the group consisting of Chlorella vulgaris, Chlorella pyrenoidosa, Chlorella ellipsoidea, and mixtures thereof. The microalgae is a dead algae body. The heavy metal includes copper and nickel. A method for removing heavy metals comprises the process of injecting a microalgae selected from the group consisting of Chlorella vulgaris, Chlorella pyrenoidosa, Chlorella ellipsoidea, and mixtures thereof into wastewater to remove heavy metals by adsorption reaction, settling and removing the adsorbent containing the heavy metals, and discharging wastewater.
