METHOD FOR FAST RE-AUTHENTICATION IN UMTS FOR UMTS-WLAN HANDOVER

A fast re-authentication method in a UMTS(Universal Mobile Telecommunications System) during handover between the UMTS and a WLAN(Wireless Local Area Network) is provided to support fast re-authentication for reducing delay caused by key generation, authentication vectors, and algorithm processing for authentication during the handover between the UMTS and a WLAN access system, thereby minimizing handover delay. An identifier request message for demanding an identifier for a mobile terminal(110) is transmitted to the terminal, according to a connection request message(S100,S110). An identifier response message is received from the terminal as a response for the request message(S120). Authentication for the terminal is demanded to a home network for the first re-authentication identifier, and the first re-authentication identifier is recognized to receive a response message for agreeing the fast re-authentication from the home network(S130-S150). A re-authentication request message is transmitted to the terminal, and a connection accept message is transmitted to the terminal as a response for the connection request message(S160-S200).
