METHOD AND APPARATUS TO GUARANTEE BANDWIDTH PER SERVICES IN THE ETHERNET FRAME TRANSMISSION NETWORKS

A method and an apparatus for guaranteeing a differentiated bandwidth for each service in an ethernet frame transmission system are provided to guarantee a differentiated bandwidth for each service by setting a different pause time according to a priority level assigned to each service when a pause frame is generated for the reason of congestion or a failure. A frame transmitting/receiving unit(10) transmits/receives ethernet frames through multiple ports. A MAC(Media Access Control) processing unit(20) recognizes information on an available current ethernet network according to congestion or a system failure by monitoring the multiple ports, and interprets a received ethernet frame. An input ethernet frame buffer(30) temporarily stores the received ethernet frame. A signal processing unit(60) sets a different pause time according to each priority level assigned to each service based on memory state information of the input ethernet frame buffer(30) and the availability information, adds a pause frame including the set pause time in a MAC control frame, and transmits it to adjacent nodes. A network processor unit(50) classifies ethernet frames inputted from the input ethernet frame buffer(30) by service, assigns a priority level, and outputs them. An output ethernet frame buffer(40) temporarily stores the outputted ethernet frames.
