Improving color brilliance in matrix-particle polymer systems, e.g. for coatings and optical displays, involves making the film-forming polymer by using ionic emulsifier for the core and non-ionic emulsifier for the shell
A method for improving the color brilliance of a colored polymer system (I) comprising a matrix and discrete polymer particles distributed according to a definite lattice structure and obtained by forming a film of an emulsion polymer with a core/shell structure made by two-stage emulsion polymerisation, in which ionic emulsifiers are used for polymerising the core monomers and non-ionic emulsifiers for polymerising the shell monomers, or vice versa. Independent claims are included for (1) colored polymer systems (I) obtained by this method (2) a method for the production of substrates coated with (I) by coating (I) onto a temporary support (e.g. by film formation or by extrusion), transferring the support with the coating onto the substrate (e.g. by lamination or pressing) and optionally removing the temporary support.
