The device has a windshield frame (7) movable from a normal position of the frame to a collision position of the frame during frontal collision and during opened convertible vehicle roof. A portion of the frame e.g. cross unit (10) of the roof having frame side units, in the collision position, has a larger distance to an occupant seat position which is arranged behind the frame than in the normal position.
