The liner (10) comprises a decorative layer (11) outer layer, preferably a fabric, a first heat insulation layer (12), a layer (13) of a high heat resistant and a reversibly flexible thermoplastic foam and a second heat insulating layer (14) comprising a non-woven fleece based on a polypropylene and polyester mixture. A injected plastic layer (15) forms the back of the liner. The decorative layer (11), both heat insulating layers (12,14) and the heat resistant foam layer (13) are heated, preferably by flame lamination, to join them together. Connectors (16) for mounting the lining panel onto a vehicle body are incorporated in the plastic backing layer (15) which may also enclose cables and/or cable channels. Air bags may also be incorporated in the plastic backing layer and in this case the liner (10) features deliberate weak failure lines. An independent claim is included for process for manufacturing the plastic liner in which four layers (11,12,13,14) are heated and joined to form a laminate (10) onto the back of which a plastic is injected in a molding tool.
