The production process involves sawing thin stone slabs (1) on a carrier from thicker stone slabs with a support (2) glued to both sides. The thicker stone slabs with the support on both sides are sawn into thin ones with the aid of a splitting machine (4) with several diamond-tipped saw blades of increasing diameter one behind the other.
