When the driver's seat is unoccupied (12) and the interior temperature rises above a limit (Tuc), the temperature is lowered. It is lowered when a different seat is occupied. Under these conditions, one or more actions are initiated. The vehicle air conditioning system (20) is activated. An electrically-controlled window (21) is opened. Venting and/or window opening are controlled, as a function of the interior temperature. A warning alarm is given, by activating an alarm system (22). Alarm is given by a vehicle driver information system (23). The information system is operated via mobile radio, e.g. as an SMS message or other similar method using cellular phones and the like . Temperature lowering and alarm, are operated as a function of the operational state of the vehicle. A time switch activates temperature lowering. A remote control operates the temperature lowering system. An independent claim IS INCLUDED FOR the corresponding protective system.
