The motor vehicle, especially a private motor vehicle, has a rear parcel shelf (3) which in the not-in-use position extends with regard to the direction of travel (11) behind the backrests (6) of a seat (2) along the backrests. When the roof (4) is closed, the rear parcel shelf is adjustable between the in-use position and the not-in-use position, and/or the vehicle has a fixed roof, and/or the vehicle has a rear hatchback (5), wherein the rear parcel shelf is adjustable only when the rear hatchback is open.
