The method involves transferring a data telegram from a sensor (10) to a control device over a bus line, where the telegram has a data section. A parity bit is used as the data section for testing the data. The parity bit is a characteristic of the sensor. The control device processes the data telegram in dependence of the evaluation of the parity bit using a demultiplexer (101) at a receiver side. An independent claim is also included for a control device for controlling a personal protection unit, with an interface component.
