The switching arrangement (1) connects a high load branch (13) to the adjustable on-board voltage network (12). The high load branch has an energy storage device (5) connected to the control unit (6) and motor power amplifier (7) of an electrical power steering (11). The high load branch also includes a decoupling unit (4a) that can be detachably connected to the on-board voltage network. The energy storage unit can be set to the standard voltage of the on-board voltage network, and can be recharged for increased voltage. An independent claim is included for increasing the power output of an electrical power steering of a motor vehicle using the switching arrangement.
