A baling press, especially for recycling materials, has a four sided chamber with a base and with an upper thrust plate driven by four hydraulic cylinders. The cylinders are fitted alongside the chamber and are connected to the thrust plate by thrust arms. At least two cylinders are in a diagonal master-slave configuration with similar cross sectional and fitted with holding brakes. This prevents the thrust plate tilting, e.g. if the chamber is loaded unevenly.
